Brief Report of the Event:
The Department of Nursing Administration and II-year Postgraduate students of Yenepoya Nursing College, a constituent college of Yenepoya (Deemed to be) University, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the Infection Prevention and Control Unit, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital (YMCH), and the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Karnataka State Branch, organized a state-level workshop on 26th June 2025. The theme of the workshop was "Breaking the Chain of HAIs: Stewardship, Safety, and Surveillance." The event was generously sponsored by Deepak Fertilizers & Petrochemicals Ltd., whose support contributed significantly to the success of the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated at the EMD Auditorium, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru. The program commenced with an invocation seeking the blessings of the Almighty. Mrs. Timi Thomas, Associate Professor, Yenepoya Nursing College, welcomed the gathering warmly, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Habib Rahaman A A, Medical Superintendent, YMCH, addressed the gathering and emphasized how healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) compromise hospital efficiency, escalate treatment costs, and erode patient trust. The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Sathya Devi, Nursing Superintendent, YMCH, highlighted the pivotal role of nurses in preventing HAIs through strict adherence to infection control practices.
Dr. Leena K C, Dean, Yenepoya Nursing College, delivered the presidential address. She congratulated the organizers for conducting the workshop and encouraged all participants to actively engage with the content and implement the insights gained to improve clinical practice and patient safety.
The event was further graced by the presence of Dr. Aldrin Vas, Professor, Tejasvini College of Nursing, Mangaluru, who attended as the KSNC observer. Ms. Harshal Preema Dsouza, Organizing Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all contributors, participants, and collaborators for making the workshop a success. The workshop witnessed the participation of 64 registered nurses from various hospitals in and around Mangaluru, who gained valuable knowledge and practical insights into infection control and patient safety. Mrs. Renita Tauro, II-year Postgraduate student, Yenepoya Nursing College, efficiently compered the entire program.
Outcome of the Event:
The state-level workshop on "Breaking the Chain of HAIs: Stewardship, Safety, and Surveillance" proved to be a significant academic and professional enrichment platform for all participants. The collaborative effort brought together expert faculty, clinical professionals, and practicing nurses with a unified focus on enhancing patient safety through effective infection control measures. The workshop facilitated meaningful engagement among participants from diverse hospitals, encouraging inter-institutional collaboration and knowledge exchange.
